(Orlando Small)
Rod's Grandfather
Have you ever wondered about this picture? Well, this is a picture of Rod's Grand Dad, Orlando Small. This picture gets plenty of publicity because Hall Farm's plastic jugs are designed around Rod's Grand Dad. In addition, the Maine Maple Producers utilize this picture on communications. In honor of our Grandfather and Grandmother, Orlando and Gertrude Small, we, at Hall Farms Maple Products, donate a "Best of Show" trophy in their honor. This distinction is made based on the maple syrup contest held at the annual meeting of the Maine Maple Producers Association (MMPA) in all categories (light, medium, dark and extra dark). The judges then choose a "Best of Show" overall. If a maple producer wins "Best of Show three (3) consecutive years, then the trophy is theirs to keep. The trophy is based on a 12 year period. If in twelve (12) years, no one producer has won "Best of Show" for (3) consecutive years, then majority of years rule and the winner will keep the trophy.

History of Hall Farms
According to our records, the Hall Family is currently in the 9th generation in East Dixfield - with our 9th generation including a 18 year-old who is a freshman at Yale University and a 12 year-old in the sixth grade. Our records date back to 1636 when Edward Hall came to the United States. This translates into twelve (12) generations of Halls in the United States, but 9 generations that have made East Dixfield their home.
An operating organic dairy farm now in its eighth generation, milking 35 or more Registered Holstein cows. As members of New Page's Forest Management Assistance Program, we carefully harvest trees on more than 1,100 acres of land, and also tap our Sugar Maple trees in order to bring you our "award winning" maple syrup.
"We are the eighth generation of Hall's to make a living from the land in East Dixfield. With our heritage and strong background in agriculture, we're very qualified to offer you the best tasting, highest quality certified organic Maine Maple Syrup and additional value added products. Just one taste and you'll agree!" If you are in the area and you see the steam rising, stop in and say hello. Our products are guarenteed for freshness and quality!
Our MOFGA certification came in 2006, but this does not change any of our "award winning, great tasting" maple syrup, because we have been producing maple syrup for many, many years under the MOFGA standards. This year, in 2011, we are tapping 7,200 sugar maples.
